One thing that stood out during my recent conversation with Cindy Mich on The Brandinc PR Podcast was this: there are a lot of talented people sitting in silence waiting to be discovered.
And in today’s media landscape, silence is expensive.
As PR professionals, communicators and storytellers, we talk often about visibility strategies, media opportunities and brand positioning. But what Cindy reminded me during our conversation is that visibility is also deeply tied to courage. The willingness to create before you feel fully ready. The willingness to share your work before perfection arrives. The willingness to build your own table when the invitation never comes.
Cindy’s career spans publishing, film, radio, television, creative writing and education. She has built platforms across multiple industries through Art is Alive Magazine, independent productions and years of amplifying creative voices. What made this conversation especially valuable for PR professionals was how clearly it connected storytelling with professional positioning.
One of the biggest themes from the episode was the idea that talent alone is no longer enough.
There are brilliant creatives, founders and experts who remain invisible simply because they struggle to communicate their value consistently. Meanwhile, people with less experience but stronger visibility strategies often dominate conversations online and in media spaces.
That reality can feel frustrating, but it also creates opportunity.
During the episode, Cindy shared insights on what makes creative professionals memorable versus forgettable, and many of those lessons directly apply to public relations and communications. Clear storytelling, audience awareness, professionalism and consistency still matter. In fact, they matter more now because audiences are overwhelmed with content every day.
Another important part of our discussion centered around ownership. Cindy spoke about launching her own platforms instead of waiting for gatekeepers to validate her work. That mindset is something I believe more communicators and entrepreneurs need to embrace, especially in a digital-first world where podcasts, newsletters, blogs and video platforms allow people to build direct relationships with audiences.
The conversation also explored something many professionals quietly experience: burnout from constantly trying to stay visible. For creatives and communicators alike, there is pressure to produce nonstop content while also maintaining quality and authenticity. Cindy offered thoughtful perspective on balancing sustainability with creativity, which I think many professionals in our industry will relate to.
One of my favorite takeaways from the episode was this reminder: your story is not separate from your brand. The way you communicate your experiences, values and perspective is often the very thing that creates connection.
For PR professionals, that lesson is especially relevant right now. Audiences are increasingly drawn toward messaging that feels human, clear and emotionally grounded rather than overly polished corporate language.
This episode of The Brandinc PR Podcast was a strong reminder that visibility is not just about promotion. It is about intentional storytelling, consistent communication and creating opportunities instead of waiting for them.
