Make Your Mental Health A Priority

2020 has been a long year for us all dealing with the emergence of covid-19 as a worldwide
crisis. This includes PR practitioners who have been faced with ‘new normals’ that have
included working from home and utilizing new technology like Zoom.

One issue that shouldn’t be ignored is your mental health. Like covid-19, it doesn’t discriminate
whom it can reach. Regardless of age, race, sex, and social status, it can get to anyone, including
yourself.

Mental health can not only affect you mentally; it can also impact you physically. Having a clear
and focused mind can be key to get through your daily tasks. That’s why it’s important to take
care of your mental health; otherwise, it can catch up to you and hurt your productivity.

With no timetable of when things will change for the better with this pandemic, here are a few
tips to help you get through the day as you read this as we know tomorrow’s not promised:

1. Break the routine. Don’t be afraid to break the routine. In American culture, work can be
seen as your identity. We thrive to squeeze as much productivity out of 24 hours, just to do it all
over again the next day, and so on.

2. Confide in someone you trust. Unfortunately, therapy comes at a price that not everybody
can afford but sometimes being heard out by someone you trust can go a long way. Each day
presents a new challenge and just having someone to share your good moments, as well as
your bad moments, can help.

3. Take it one day at a time. Look at each task you complete as progress, even if you don’t get
everything done that you planned for the day. Just getting a task done is huge as it’s one less
thing to do and opens mental space for more.
