Each month, PRSA Independent Practitioners Alliance (IPA) will introduce you to one of our members through this fun feature. If you'd like to be featured, take a shot at these questions—or make up your own—and send them via this site or email to J.W. Arnold, jw@prdconline.com.

Carla Brown Lucas
IPA Executive Committee
President, Brown Lucas Consulting
Talahassee, FL

Been in business: 9 years
Previous job/position: Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, Business Development Board of Palm Beach County
Specialty/industries: Economic Development, Government Relations, Health Care, Nonprofit, Land Development, Education
Secret to your success: A great network of colleagues and clients
Biggest challenge: My natural inclination to procrastinate
Mentor or influence on your career: Ron Sachs, president/CEO of Sachs Media Group gave 20-something me more career experiences and opportunities than many people have after 10 years on the job. It’s thanks to his professional trust in me -- and our mutual respect and appreciation of each other’s work -- that we have collaborated on projects throughout the 15 years since I left the agency.
Biggest benefit of IPA: The opportunity to learn from others. I’ve been solo for nine years; however, I know I don’t have a lock on good ideas. If you know how to build a better mousetrap, please teach me your ways.
Walter Mitty fantasy: I have two – NYT bestselling author who gets her novel optioned for a movie; actress on Broadway
Luxury defined: A week at a spa in Switzerland
Hobbies: Traveling, photography, knitting, cooking
Favorite book, movie or TV: Book/Movie: The Devil Wears Prada – several life lessons wrapped up in a lovely Hermes scarf; TV: Friends
Who would play you in a movie: Oooch…let me get back to you.
Something nobody would guess about you: I took Arabic in college.
Quick tip for a new indie: Have a lawyer review your standard agreement and advise you as to what can and cannot be modified based on your state and local laws, and find a stellar accountant.
Last words (or quote): I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
